- LEED 511: Introduction to Building Energy Modeling
- Measuring and improving building energy use is a top concern for building owners, property managers, utilities and others in the real state industry. “Energy modeling is the practice of using computer-based programs to model the energy performance of an entire building or the systems within a building, providing valuable information about energy use as well as operating costs” (AIA). As adoption of more stringent energy codes increases, there will be greater demand for individuals that have the skills to predict, and help reduce, building energy use. Join us for this 4-hour workshop that provides the foundation for architects, engineers and other building professionals seeking to build their capacity in energy modeling. The workshop provides an introduction to Autodesk DWG TrueView (CAD tool) and eQUEST’s Schematic Design Wizard and develops knowledge of satisfying LEED EAp2 and LEED EAc1 Option 1 through building energy modeling. The workshop is designed for:
- Individuals who are unfamiliar with CAD tools or need a refresher on drawing buildings and/or important CAD drawings within eQuest.;
- Individuals working on LEED projects who want to understand what energy modeling is and how it is used to satisfy EAp2 and EAc1 Option 1; and
- Individuals who are new to eQUEST.
- This workshop is a prerequisite before taking LEED 521: Energy Modeling For LEED Using eQuest. However, individuals that have the skills taught in this workshop can place directly into the LEED 521 workshop. Seating is limited and registration is first-come, first-serve. This is a hands-on course, meaning that attendees will need to bring PC laptops (no macs, please) with software installed before the day of the class. Attendees will receive an email with directions on how to install all software one week prior to the workshop.
- Continuing Education: 4 AIA SD HSW/LU.
- Materials: Video with industructions on how to install software; Presentation handouts.

- LEED 521: Energy Modeling For LEED Using eQUEST
- Measuring and improving building energy use is a top concern for building owners, property managers, utilities and others in the real state industry. “Energy modeling is the practice of using computer-based programs to model the energy performance of an entire building or the systems within a building, providing valuable information about energy use as well as operating costs” (AIA). As adoption of more stringent energy codes increases, there will be greater demand for individuals that have the skills to predict, and help reduce, building energy use. Join us for this one and a half day workshop that provides hands-on experience with how to use eQUEST to generate baseline and proposed building energy models for LEED©. The workshop provides an introduction to learn how to apply ASHRAE 90.1-2007 Appendix G (Performance Rating Method) for the development of a baseline building. It increases the knowledge about the process-oriented approach to building energy modeling. The workshop also demonstrates how to identify, diagnose and troubleshoot simulation issues and errors within eQUEST. Finally, it will provide the ability to identify output within eQUEST reporting that is required for LEED. The workshop is designed for:
- Individuals who are familar with CAD tools and know how to draw buildings and import CAD drawings within eQUEST;
- Individuals working on LEED projects who want to know how to use eQUEST to satisfy EAp2 and EAc1 Option 1;
- Individuals who have at least a beginners knowledge of how to use eQUEST and have used eQUEST's Schematic Design Wizard; and
- This course is not for advanced professionals looking to learn specialized modeling skills, e.g. designing nonstandard HVAC systems.
- The LEED 511: Introduction to Building Energy Modeling workshop is a prerequisite before taking this workshop. However, individuals that have the skills taught in the LEED 511 workshop can place directly into this workshop. Seating is limited and registration is first-come, first-serve. Registration fee includes the entire one and a half days. This is a hands-on course, meaning that attendees will need to bring PC laptops (no macs, please) with software installed before the day of the class. Attendees will receive an email with directions on how to install all software one week prior to the workshop.
- Continuing Education: 12 AIA SD HSW/LU and 12 GBCI LEED-Specific CE for BD+C for LEED Green Associates and LEED AP’s. ASHRAE and AEE Certified Professionals may submit for continuing education credit.
- Materials: Energy Modeling handbook with slides from workshop; Video with industructions on how to install software.
